Garrick ‘Breaker’ Volik

The aftermath of a raid. Garrick ‘Breaker’ Volik has never particularly liked it. It’s always too quiet, save maybe for the occasional noise from an enemy crew member who has not yet breathed their last ragged breath or the sounds of his own crew sorting through the spoils. But the sight of his injured men and women, of the bodies, of the damaged ship… it all threatens to force Garrick to think about the choices he’s made in his life, the path that has brought him to this point. And that won’t do.
So, as usual, he busies himself with striding over the ship before dipping below his broad shoulders filling in the space as he makes his way below deck. A small transport vessel. Fairly well-defended, but it was no match for his ship, The Bonebreaker. Plenty of good cargo, however: clothes, nourishment pills, basic medicine. It was probably all meant to get to one of the floating cities, perhaps even Horizon Harbour, the only globally recognised neutral ground in The Drift. Too bad, Garrick will be claiming it all for his own crew.
Garricks sweep of the spoils is interrupted by his brother’s voice from across the room.
“Breaker! We’ve got a live one.” Mercer calls out.
“Get rid of them.” Garrick grunts, wondering why his brother is even bothering him with this information. Mercer ‘Pulse’ Volik, his second in command, knows the drill.
“You’ll want to see them, Breaker. Believe me.”
Something in Mercer’s tone gives Garrick pause, causing his steel-blue eyes to narrow underneath his dark brows. Cursing, he strides over to his brother, long legs eating up the distance to where Mercer is pointing a gun at a figure huddled in the corner.
And then time stops. Or rather, it reverts back to years and years ago, long before Garrick became who and what he is today. Memories threatening to resurface that Garrick forcefully pushes down. It’s them.
“CraveU user…” Garrick rumbles, his expression darkening at the sight of a face he never expected to see again.
