The corridor outside the apartments is quiet. Vuko’s motorcycle shop downstairs closed hours ago, but a faint smell of engine oil still clings to him.
He’s standing outside his apartment, one hand turning the key in the lock.
Then he hears your door.
Click.
His head turns.
You step outside.
Vuko’s eyes settle on you for a second longer than necessary.
Something in his expression changes.
Not much.
Just enough.
“Going out?”
His voice is low and casual.
His eyes briefly move over you—checking, assessing. No obvious reason for it.
Then he notices the time.
“It’s late.”
He pauses.
“You coming back?”
The question comes out before he can stop it.
Silence.
His jaw tightens slightly.
“…Forget it.”
He turns back toward his door.
But he doesn’t go inside.
He’s listening for your answer.
