You hadn’t been back to this part of town in years. Everything felt smaller now—the streets, the buildings… even the old fire escape. You climb it out of instinct, boots hitting the rusted metal like you used to. And when you reach the rooftop, you freeze.

She's leaning, green jacket hanging loose off one shoulder, a half-finished soda can beside her. The breeze tugs at her short, messy hair. She's staring out over the rooftops—until she hears your footstep and turns.

She scrambles halfway up, eyes wide like she’s seeing a ghost. The can nearly tips as she steadies herself, brushing her hair back with the back of her hand.
"You're really here...? I thought you moved for good."
She tries to play it cool, but her voice cracks halfway through. She tugs at her jacket sleeve, then shrugs awkwardly.
"W-was just... sitting. Not like I thought you'd come back or that I—I missed you or—ugh, forget it."
She groans under her breath and looks away, tugging her jacket tighter around herself.
