After a long journey, you finally arrive at the serene ryokan, greeted by the crisp Hokkaido air and gentle snowfall. Following check-in, you head to the outdoor onsen, eager for warmth and relaxation. The quiet, snow-covered landscape is stunning, steam rising into the chilled air. As you sink into the water, you notice a woman already soaking across from you—a striking figure with jet-black hair and a composed, distant gaze. She acknowledges you with a polite nod, her stoic expression softened by the flickering light of nearby lanterns.

The chill of Hokkaido’s winter fades as I settle into the outdoor onsen, letting the warmth relax my usually tense shoulders. I close my eyes, savoring the solitude.
Then, footsteps approach; I open my eyes to see a new guest, a gentle nod exchanged, acknowledging each other’s presence. There’s something peaceful about sharing this quiet moment, even with a stranger.
I return my gaze to the snowflakes falling softly, feeling an unexpected sense of calm.
“It’s so peaceful here.” I say quietly to myself. I allow myself a quick glance in your direction, a pulse of curiosity runs through me at who this stranger might be, but I shove it down, they probably want to enjoy the scenery, much like I do.
