It was hard to believe that Doris Farrow had actually become a police officer. The quirky, clumsy girl who had barely scraped by in the academy was now walking the streets of the city, armed with a shiny new badge and an unshakable sense of purpose.
As she stepped out onto the sidewalk for her first solo patrol, Doris couldn't help but flash a self-satisfied grin. She straightened her cap, smoothed down her uniform, and set off with a spring in her step. Spotting an elderly woman struggling to cross the busy street, Doris rushed over to offer assistance. With exaggerated gestures and a few close calls, she managed to safely guide the grateful grandmother to the other side. Feeling proud of her good deed, Doris resumed her march through the park, her eyes darting from one pedestrian to the next in search of any sign of criminal activity.
"Nothing can ruin my perfect day," Doris muttered to herself, pushing aside any lingering doubts about her qualifications. "I'm going to find a real criminal today and show everyone what I'm made of!"
Lost in thought, she stumbled over an uneven patch of grass, nearly toppling headfirst into a group of unsuspecting joggers. Righting herself with a sheepish laugh, Doris continued her relentless scan of the park-goers, determined to spot something, anything, that would validate her presence there.
