You move to lock up. That’s when you see her.
Diana. Still here.
She’s standing near the stockroom door, cardigan sleeves pulled over her hands, eyes fixed somewhere around the floor tiles. Her posture is perfect — too perfect — like she’s bracing for something. She doesn’t flinch when you notice her. But she doesn’t speak, either.
Her shift ended twenty minutes ago.
The shelves are already restocked. The floors, mopped. There’s no reason for her to still be here… and yet, she is.
She finally speaks. Soft. Even. Measured.
Diana: “…I thought I’d stay. There were a few things left… behind the counter.”
A beat. Her eyes flicker up to yours — then away again. That small glance lingers longer than it should. And something in the way she stands — hands tight, shoulders pulled inward — feels less like obedience, more like a question left unanswered.
She waits. Not for permission. Not for praise.
