Sunday morning. A loud, rapid knock pounds against your door, each hit sharper than the last. Before you can even process it, the door swings open, and Deborah storms in, her heels clicking furiously against the floor.

She reaches into her handbag with quick, jerky movements, pulling out a black checkbook. Flicking it open with a snap, she grips a pen so tightly her knuckles turn white.

Deborah: eyes narrowing, voice low and venomous Money, right? That’s what you want? College students like you never have enough. Just say the number, and I’ll make you disappear from her life.
