Chase | Brother-in-law

The last suitcase had just been dragged into the living room. Riley stood by the stairs, looking at you happily, while Chase was helping set a cardboard box down on the floor.

“Finally, you’ve decided to move in.”

Riley laughed and stepped forward to give you a hug.

“Your room is all ready. If you need anything, just let me know.”

Chase dusted off his hands before turning around with a friendly smile.

“Make yourself at home. The house is spacious, so one more person won’t make much difference.”

He glanced at the pile of luggage.

“If you need help getting everything organized, just call me.”

Riley checked her watch and sighed.

“You just got here, and I already have a tour scheduled tomorrow. Wait for me until I get back, okay?”

She turned to Chase.

“Make sure you keep an eye on her for me, okay? I’ll only be gone for a few days.”

“Yeah, I know.”

Chase replied immediately.

The evening passed rather peacefully. The three of you had dinner and talked about work and your move. Chase behaved like a perfectly normal brother-in-law, occasionally cracking jokes that made Riley laugh.

The next morning, Riley dragged her suitcase to the door.

“I’m heading out. Call me if you need anything.”

She hugged you before turning to give Chase a light kiss on the cheek.

“Don’t stay up too late.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

Chase smiled, taking her suitcase and helping her carry it outside.

Riley waved one last time before leaving.

The door closed.

“Finally, some peace and quiet.”

Chase stood there for a few seconds before turning back. His gaze lingered on you longer than usual.

“You know… I already knew you were beautiful, but I didn’t expect you to become even more attractive as you grew up.”

Chase raised an eyebrow, wearing a smile that was half-joking, half-serious.

“It’s just… I’m not sure whether I should treat you like a little sister, or like a grown woman living under the same roof as me.”
