❁ Introduction ❁
W elcome aboard the Aurora's Dawn. Whether crew or passenger, Captain Nasir Al-Rahim is responsible for you, now.
❁ Setting ❁
Aurora's Dawn is a state-of-the-art transport ship, renowned in both legal and underground circles for its speed and stealth capabilities. On the surface, it operates as a legal transport vessel, carrying goods and passengers across various star systems. However, beneath this legitimate facade lies a deep-rooted smuggling operation dedicated to aiding impoverished outer worlds neglected by the Interstellar Trade Alliance (ITA). The once sleek, all-white spaceship began its life as a ship named The Red Dawn, commissioned by the ITA for high-capacity cargo transport. Designed for speed and endurance, it was, at the time, a flagship model equipped with cutting-edge navigation systems, comfortable crew quarters and a roomy cargo hold. Captain Nasir Al-Rahim was a settler on the developing planet of Kallista. A plague outbreak devastated the colony, and despite pleas for help, the ITA never came. Nasir lost his wife and young daughter, Aurora, to plague. Consumed by grief and anger, he vowed to prevent further suffering. Nasir and a group of like-minded rebels hijacked the vessel and stole the medicine. He renamed it Aurora's Dawn in memory of his daughter, symbolizing a new beginning for those the ITA had abandoned. With extensive modifications, the ship now features hidden compartments, advanced stealth technology, weaponry, and clever accommodations such as a basketball court in the cargo bay and quarters remodeled for long-term living. Aurora’s Dawn navigates the fine line between legality and criminality, adapting to new challenges and the ever-evolving tactics of the ITA. Its legacy as a legendary smuggling ship grows. It operates under the guise of a legal transport ship, accepting contracts from legitimate businesses and transporting goods across the galaxy. However, the true wealth isn't in legal work. Hidden within are false walls and secret compartments that hide illegal goods ranging from rare artifacts to fugitives to essential resources for impoverished worlds. The crew uses a network of informants, bribes, and forged documents to maintain cover. They often take on passengers, some of whom are unaware of the ship’s true nature and must be kept in the dark. Aurora’s Dawn has built a reputation as a reliable and discreet vessel in the smuggling community. Its ability to evade detection and deliver goods safely has made it a preferred choice for high-risk, high-reward operations. Despite its illicit activities, the ship and its crew are known for their loyalty to their clients and each other, creating a sense of camaraderie and trust amongst each other.

The loading bay was alive when Nasir reached it.
The cavernous space was filled with controlled chaos as cargo skidded along mag-rails, hydraulic arms tucked crates into place, and voices overlapped in several different languages as crew and port hands shouted confirmations back and forth. The air was thick with the dust of a tired planet that had seen too many ships like Aurora's Dawn come and go, slowly falling slipping further and further into desperation.
Nasir paused at the metal railing on the catwalk above, hands loose against the steel, his posture easy. From here, he could see everything. Wheels was arguing with a dock foreman over weight distribution, gesturing too broadly. Cillian was half inside an access panel, boots sticking out as he muttered to himself while a diagnostic drone hovered nearby. Ace leaned against a crate of food, helmet tucked under one arm, his grin sharp as he joked with Rovak, who had apparently said something hilarious, yet unhelpful.
Good, He though. Loud means alive. Alive means ready.
He scanned the incoming passengers next as they stood in queue. A family clutching mismatched bags, eyes wide as they took in the ship. A lone woman pretended not to be nervous, fingers tight around her sleeve. A businessman stood, already annoyed, checking his timepiece as if the boarding process could possibly go any faster. None of them knew what rested beyond the false walls just meters away. It didn't concern them, anyways. For all they knew, Aurora's Dawn was a simple passenger and cargo transport ship, ferrying citizens and goods around the galaxy.
Nasir's gaze lingered, thoughtful. Every person who stepped aboard became his responsibility. He'd learned to read people quickly, learned to anticipate who might be a problem. That businessman, with his patched-up suit, could possibly be a problem. But, for now, he was simply entitled, and that didn't warrant response on the captain's part. Everyone was equal when aboard his ship, no matter whether their ticket aboard had cost their life savings or a day's earnings. It didn't matter. He'd greet them all properly soon, at dinner, probably. He liked to show face, make people feel at ease, welcome.
He made his way down to the bay to wonder amongst all the people, to check in with his men and offer reassurance to the boarding group. Soon, the bay doors would seal and the ship would rumble to life, carrying them up toward the stars. He let out a breath. Good. The sooner they could be away from the port inspectors and lessen the risk of bumping into ITA officials, the better.
