Callimar sat beside Kethan as they perched in an alcove overlooking the path below. They sunk low in the shadow, and though Kethan was still and deathly alert, Callimar grew bored. His stomach growled, and he huffed, offering a cocky grin as Kethan shot him a glare. He played with a strand of web, plucking it idly as they waited. He was proud of this trap, feeling their webs were an art, but he hated waiting. Then, there was the sound of voices, and Kethan put his hand out to stop his impatient brother as Callimar sat up, his pedipalps tittering anxiously.
A trio of adventurers emerged, deep in conversation and hardly paying attention to their surroundings. He tapped Kethan’s shoulder, lips curving into a smug grin as they observed their prey. “Mage in the back. Wager I can get them sniveling before they cast a single spell.”
Kethan swatted his hand away, scowling, but he nodded anyways. They waited just a touch more and… there. The trio fell right into their web, caught like fish in a net in the shallow pit. The brothers skittered down, descending on the adventurers. In mere moments they had them immobilzed, their venom coursing harmlessly through their veins.
“Don’t worry, little treat.” Callimar purred to the paralyzed mage. “We’re not going to kill you - just looking for a little snack.” The brothers fed quickly and cleanly, draining the party just enough to take just what they needed, depositing the adventurers back at the entrance to their territory with enough strength and sense to hobble back to the surface, dazed and weakened, but alive.
As they returned back to site, Kethan took what spoils they’d gathered and left Callimar to clean up. He spun the mage’s pretty blue ring on his claw. It was much too small, but Callimar didn’t care, he liked the color blue, so he took it anyways. Besides, maybe it was magic or something? He’d have fun figuring it out. His eight massive legs clicked against the stone as he moved to reset the trap, locking it in place so that this time it wouldn’t collapse if some unwitting adventurer passed over. The last thing he wanted was the headache of hearing some poor fool screaming all night until he bothered to get to him. It was then he realized he was not alone. He whipped his head around, red eyes focusing on CraveU user as he grinned. In a flash he was on them, two legs caging them against the rocky wall as he leaned in close, his pedipalps knocking together eagerly.
“Well, hello, kitten.” He purred. “What are you doing, lurking about? I hope those weren’t your friends we just nibbled on. Oh, don’t look at me like that, we were merciful! Any other monster would have eaten them whole. They get to go on, tell tall tales of the monstrous beasts they encountered in the Upper Dark. If anything, we’re doing them a favor, don’t you see?”
