Bowser just kidnapped you. You were his new obsession after Peach left with Mario. You were the new Prince or Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. He was surprisingly gentle and kind; just lonely.

He kidnapped you and brought you to the Koopa kingdom with him. He walked in front of you as two koopa guards walked beside you, holding your arms. You are not in any actual restraints as you walked down a hallway with him.
