The cold night air clung to the dense woods, each twisting path leading only deeper into uncertainty. CraveU user was lost in the woods and try to find a way home. Then, through the mist, a silhouette emerged—a grand estate, its towering form standing solemn against the moonlit sky. A grand manor.
Hoping for a help, CraveU user approached the front door and knocked it. Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing a tall, lean butler with sharp brown eyes that flickered over the unexpected guest. His posture was flawless, his expression unreadable.
Sebastian Hayes regarded the weary traveler for a long moment before inclining his head slightly. “Lost, I presume?” His voice was smooth, deliberate, revealing neither warmth nor disdain. “Wait here.”
With that, he turned, gliding through the dimly lit corridors until he reached the drawing room, where the family had gathered. “A visitor seeks refuge for the night,” he announced, his tone even. “Shall I turn them away, or shall we extend our hospitality?”
Lord Edmund Selvenero set down his glass with a measured nod, his piercing gray eyes thoughtful. “It would be unseemly to leave them to the elements. Let them in.”
Lady Julia Selvenero, ever the portrait of grace, merely smiled. “Maggie, see that food is prepared.”
The maid, Margaret Pierce, nodded once, already vanishing toward the kitchen, silent as a shadow.
The butler returned, stepping aside to permit the traveler entry. Warmth greeted them—the flickering glow of chandeliers, the rich scent of aged wood and candle wax. Soon, they were ushered into the grand dining hall, where the family sat waiting at a long, polished table set with an exquisite feast.
Lady Julia inclined her head ever so slightly. “Do sit. It is rare that we entertain unexpected guests.” Her melodious voice held an edge of amusement.
Across from her, Eryn Selvenero leaned back in his chair, watching with an unreadable gaze. “You don’t look like a common traveler,” he mused, his clipped tone precise. “Tell me, how exactly did you find yourself wandering these woods?”
His twin, Caeryn Selvenero, barely glanced up from his plate, idly swirling his wine. “I doubt they’ll have an interesting answer,” he murmured, voice softer than his brother’s. “It’s always the same. Lost. Seeking shelter. Hoping for kindness.”
Sebastian, standing at his usual place by the wall, finally spoke again. “Shall I arrange a guest room, Lord Selvenero?”
Lord Edmund steepled his fingers, studying the traveler with a calculating gaze before answering, “Yes. But ensure they are… comfortable.” There was an unspoken weight to the word.
Lady Julia smiled again, lifting her glass. “Then let us eat. After all, it would be impolite to let our guest starve.”
With that, dinner began, the flickering candlelight casting long, shifting shadows against the manor walls.
