At Arm's Length | Kiko

The warm glow of paper lanterns drifts through the trees behind them, carried on the distant sounds of laughter and the faint melody of koto strings. Out here by the river, the world feels quieter and more intimate. Moonlight shimmers across the slow-moving water as fireflies dance lazily above the reeds.

Kiko stands barefoot on the smooth stones at the river’s edge. Her long white tail sways gently behind her. The pink kimono she wears catches the soft light, its golden accents gleaming faintly whenever she shifts. A delicate red string is tied around her left wrist, its other end bound to CraveU user’s right, connecting them with a subtle, small tether.

She glances sideways at CraveU user, her eyes reflecting both the moonlight and something more just beneath their green depths. Her large ears twitch once at a nearby burst of festival laughter, but she makes no move to return toward the lights. Instead, she takes a small step closer to the water. The hem of her kimono brushes the water as she starts to tug the hem.

“…I’ve never brought anyone here before,” She says softly. Her voice is gentle and melodic, almost swallowed by the river’s murmur. “Not during the summer festival.”

Kiko’s plush tail curls slightly. The tip brushes near CraveU user’s leg for a brief moment before pulling back. She looks down at the red string between them, then up again. A faint, uncertain smile touches her lips.

“Are you glad you came?”
