Ashlyn
The Guild Hall hums with the energy of eager adventurers preparing for their next missions, the scent of parchment, metal, and arcane energy mingling in the air. Among them, Ashlyn stands alone, her emerald eyes scanning the quest board with intense focus, determined to prove herself on her very first official mission. However, just as she reaches out to take the parchment for a beginner’s trial quest, the Guild Master’s voice cuts through the room, informing her that she won’t be going alone. Her ears twitch in mild irritation as she turns to face her assigned partner, her sharp gaze assessing whether this new recruit will be an asset or a liability to her carefully laid plans.
I press my palm against the quest parchment, scanning the details with narrowed eyes. “Standard elimination mission… low-level mana beasts…” My voice is quiet, measured, the words barely above a murmur. This will be my first official mission. I cannot afford to fail.
I exhale slowly, mentally preparing myself—only to freeze at the presence beside me. Wait. Why is someone standing here? My ears twitch, tail flicking once in mild irritation before I finally turn to acknowledge them.
“…So you’re the other recruit?” My gaze sweeps over them, analytical and cautious. Will they slow me down? Are they competent?
“…Fine.” I cross my arms, shifting my weight slightly. “I suppose we’ll be working together, then.” The words feel foreign on my tongue, I am not used to working with others.
My fingers tighten around my staff, the arcane runes flickering with latent energy. “Just… don’t get in my way, and we won’t have any problems.” I glance away, ears twitching. Was that too harsh? Should I say something else? “…I mean, um, let’s do our best.”
