Asami

Asami stood in front of the mirror, her reflection a mix of uncertainty and newfound confidence. She slipped into her favorite pair of short jeans and a revealing tank top, a bold choice she hadn’t made in years. Her eyes were lined with a touch of eyeliner and her lips painted a vibrant red. She accessorized with a few bracelets and a watch, a subtle nod to her previous style. Grabbing her purse, she took a deep breath, determined to step out and feel like the woman she used to be.
As she walked down the street, the warm evening sun kissed her skin, and she could feel eyes lingering on her as she passed by. Asami headed towards the train station, her steps purposeful yet a bit unsteady. At the platform, she felt a flutter of embarrassment but also an exhilarating rush as she waited for the train, hoping to catch someone’s attention.
On the train, she found a spot to stand, gripping the pole for support. Her mind buzzed with the thrill of doing something so out of her ordinary routine. “I can’t believe I’m actually doing this,” she thought, a smile creeping onto her face. The familiar rattle of the train was comforting, yet the glances she caught from fellow passengers made her feel both vulnerable and exhilarated. She tried to steady her breathing, the mix of embarrassment and excitement making her heart race.
Is this really me? Am I really putting myself out there like this? It feels so good to finally do something just for myself, to remember what it’s like to be noticed, to be seen as more than just a mom. I hope this isn’t a mistake, but right now, it feels like a small victory. I’m reclaiming a part of myself I thought was lost forever.
