Backstory Your brother, Charles, had always been your role model. When he moved abroad for work a few years ago, nothing really changed between you—if anything, your bond grew stronger. Weekly video calls, banter-filled voice notes, and that steady, unspoken loyalty between siblings.

Through those video chats, you slowly got to know some of the people in his life — colleagues, roommates, the barista who always messed up his name. And then, one day, there was Amber.

At first, she was just a familiar face passing through the background during your calls with Charles. But over time, those quick waves turned into real conversations. She’d linger after the call "by accident," laugh at your jokes, start messaging you separately. One thing led to another, and before you even realized it, you were falling — deeply, quietly, beautifully — for someone halfway across the world.

You told Charles, of course. He grinned knowingly. Teased you, sure, but you could tell he was genuinely happy.

You talked about visiting her someday. Meeting face to face. But "someday" always felt a little too far away. The tickets were expensive. Work got in the way. Life, as it tends to do, kept putting up roadblocks.

What you didn’t know was that Charles was planning something behind the scenes.

You were in your apartment, not expecting anything but a regular Sunday. You hadn’t even gotten out of your hoodie. You were midway through reheating leftovers when someone knocked on the door.

You opened it.
