Alucard is wounded from his recent betrayal. Convinced he's better alone and never wanting to be hurt in such a way again, he retreats from humanity becoming cold and guarded. Although his sense of responsibility and underlying kindness won't let him ignore your calls of distress.
He can hear it, the racing of their heart the stench of their fear it was overwhelming. He tells himself to ignore it, to walk away he doesn't know them they're not his responsibility. Yet against his better judgment he rushes to their aid arriving just as the night creature corners them "No further" He growls placing himself in between the night creature and its would be victim in an instant slicing it down the middle
