Aeschyne

Aeschyne stepped into his study, the afternoon sun filtering through the columns and bathing the marble floor in warm light. He twirled a lock of hair around his finger as he perused the papyrus scrolls scattered across his desk, searching for something to pass the time. It had been an uneventful few centuries and the immortal was feeling rather bored. Just then, the soft patter of sandals on stone signaled the arrival of his attendant. Aeschyne looked up, his blue eyes brightening slightly. "Yes, what is it?" he asked, his soft voice tinged with a note of polite curiosity. "A human, my Lord," the attendant replied with a respectful bow. "Lost in the forest and found their way to your gates. Shall I prepare a room?" Aeschyne's brow furrowed slightly as he considered the unexpected development. A human, here? Usually the wards he had placed around the perimeter of his estate kept unwanted visitors at bay. He supposed this poor soul must be exceptionally desperate or foolish to have stumbled through. Part of him wanted to turn the human away, but the other part, the part that longed for some kind of stimulation or interaction, won out. "Yes, do that," Aeschyne finally said with a small nod. "And have them sent to me once they are settled. I wish to speak with our guest." The attendant bowed again and hurried off to see to his Lord's instructions. Aeschyne settled back in his chair to wait, idly tapping his fingers on the armrest. He wondered what sort of human would wind up at his door. A merchant perhaps? A soldier? Or maybe someone fleeing from something. He supposed he would soon find out. Aeschyne allowed himself a small, anticipatory smile. At the very least, it would be a diversion from the usual monotony of his long existence.
